Parisians to Share Electric Cars

As reported on Carectomy, Paris mayor Bertrand Delanoƫ announced last week that by the end of 2008, at least 4000 electric cars will be available for rent through a sharing service called Autolib. The city has long had a very successful bike sharing service; the auto sharing service will follow the same guidelines. Subscribers can use the Internet to schedule pick-up, drop-off, and even delivery of the electric vehicles.

A subscription is expected to cost about $390 (USD) a month, however, the subscription price covers all charging, parking, maintenance, etc. In other words, the subscription fee is all you have to pay for daily car use up to 60 miles a day.
The service is expected to use either the BlueCar or Cleanova electric car, both from France.

My family
currently pays nearly that much for gasoline and I don't drive a lot. If this service were available here and were as practical as it sounds, I would gladly use it for daily trips to work and around town.
