Religion of Peace Demonstration
My wife received an email today with some rather unsettling images of Islamic unrest. Here's a couple of the photos:
The email stated that this was part of an Islamic Religion of Peace demonstration held recently in London. It also stated that the American media withheld the images because they were too shocking for Americans. And that the sender had received the images from a Canadian newspaper.
Well, a simple google search on 'Religion of Peace' revealed that these images were from demonstrations in February of 2006 protesting the Danish cartoon about the prophet Muhammad. So, as unsettling as the images are, it is certainly a bit comforting to know that they are over two years old, and they were done in order to make a statement about this event that was considered highly offensive by the Muslim Community.
The email my wife received stated that this recent demonstration shows that we need to make sure not to elect Barack Obama as president because he has Muslim ties. Seems like a pretty cheap shot to dig up 2 year old photos to tie them to the latent racism surrounding Obama.
And, as I thought about it, it occurred to me, would you rather have a president who is hated by anti-American groups and countries, or one who is respected by them?
