CALIFORNIANS: VOTE NO ON PROPOSITION H8!!!!

California has a proposition (Prop 8) on the upcoming ballot to make gay marriage illegal. In the last week or so, Yes on 8 signs have been springing up all over the place. More than any other campaign signs, these leave a very bad taste in my mouth. It is akin to what I would feel if I saw a KKK demonstration or a group of skinheads carrying Nazi flags. Proposition 8 is all about H8. It is supported for the most part by misguided religious zealots and homophobes. Jesus preached love, peace and tolerance. If people spent more time and money on compassion, love and charity, the world would be a much better place.

A co-worker of mine had an excellent idea for what to do to Proposition 8 signs that are posted on public property in the vicinity of your home.

The author of this blog does not actually recommend vandalizing or removing campaign signs that fall within your city's legal sign posting ordinances. Doing so is cause for arrest and prosecution. If a sign is suspected to be illegally posted, please contact city officials to have them remove the sign. However, posting your own political signs is completely legitimate. I see no reason why you wouldn't be able to acquire Yes on 8 signs, modify them and then post them in legal locations. Anyone caught removing them would be in violation of the same laws regarding removal of campaign signs.

This isn't even about marriage or gays for that matter, it's about equal rights. There was a day when Blacks and Hispanics were told who they were allowed to marry. It was barely over 50 years ago when segregation and internment was not only legal but excepted. Apparently we don't learn from our mistakes. And when I say we, of course I mean the idiots that would support this arcane proposition.
